Apprenticeship Programme
“To safely operate the Gas Distribution Network in Wales and south west England, having a skilled workforce is key and so apprenticeships are vital for succession planning and our preferred route for recruitment. The skills we require to run our critical infrastructure cannot be ‘bought’ so we invest heavily to develop our own apprentice programmes and training academies.
We have lifted barriers to recruitment and actively engage with those who may not have traditionally considered an apprenticeship – resulting in a 145% increase in applications we received for our 2017 programme and our average age reducing from 54 to 43. The evolution of our culture to one which is values based strongly appeals to new recruits and has secured us a Silver level Investors in People Accreditation.
Our four different programmes provide great opportunities for learners to progress with 12% of our apprentices progressing to supervisor or management so far.”
