“Our industry is highly regulated, so we are incentivised to efficiently reduce costs, whilst meeting strict safety and service standards.

We have a geography spanning 1/6th of the UK and an ageing workforce, who are mostly field based, so our challenge was to develop a people strategy that engages and develops colleagues, and meets business needs for today and the future.

Through partnering and consultation, our team has focused on values-based cultural evolution and refreshing all elements of the colleague journey. This has ranged from transforming our recruitment criteria and developing neuroscience based behaviours training, to creating a coaching framework and new management traineeship.

We are especially proud of our wellbeing strategy which has focused on raising awareness of psychological ill-health. Engagement scores have improved to 84% in 2016 from less than 50% in 2013, and resulted in our 2017 Investors in People silver level accreditation – results we’re delighted with!”
